RAF Flt Lt Jon Bond, is a Typhoon fighter jet pilot and the training officer for his squadron. While many of us may feel our pressure and stress may seem somewhat more prosaic, we need to have tools to handle it. Work, school, family, health, traffic, bureaucracy... whatever its source, how we handle pressure determines our success. Come and learn how a combat-ready fighter jet pilot prepares to handle his.
Flt Lt Bond was born in Harlow, Essex in 1984. Bond studied for a BSc in Air Transport Management and an MSc in Transport Planning and Business Management at Loughborough University. During his time at university he was part of the East Midlands Universities Air Squadron where he completed Elementary Flying Training on the Grob Tutor. He then joined Initial Officer Training Course 4 in Jul 06 and graduated in Mar 07.
On completion of IOT, Bond was selected for Fast Jet Training at RAF Linton on Ouse where he gained his wings in Mar 08. Bond then enrolled at RAF Valley to undertake Advanced Flying Training on the Hawk. On completion of AFT, Bond was selected to become an instructor at RAF Linton on Ouse on the Tucano. Bond shortly gained his Qualified Flying Instructor category and began instructing students on 207 (R) Sqn. In Jan 11 he was awarded his A2 QFI category and was posted to the Central Flying School (Tucano) Flight where he was responsible for teaching new QFI students. In 2012, Bond was selected to be the Tucano Display Pilot and displayed at over 70 shows across the UK and in Europe.
On completion of his QFI tour and after brief stint on the Tac Wpns Flt at RAF Valley, Bond was posted to fly the Typhoon. In Nov 13, after finishing the Operational Conversion Unit, Bond joined 3(F) Sqn where he is currently a Multi-Role Combat Ready Pairs Leader and the sqn Training Officer. He has recently completed operational deployments to Lithuania in support of Baltic Air Policing and also to the Falkland Islands.
Bond is a keen sportsman and has played a variety of sports at different levels. He currently represents the RAF at both Inter and Combined Services Tennis.
